About me

Hello, my name is Howard and welcome to Howie Cashes-In.

I created this site to share how I manage, budget, and grow my money, along with the mindset shifts that helped me take control of my finances. I genuinely believe we should all be making our money work harder for us, instead of us working harder for money.

My interest in money started over 10 years ago, though the curiosity goes back even further, I’ve been fascinated by old and world coins since I was a kid. But like most people, I didn’t always have a financial plan. Before the age of 20, I spent money pretty freely, nothing over the top, but I never really thought about savings or investing. I wasn’t materialistic, just unbothered.

That changed when I decided to save for my first home. I had no savings account, no idea what interest even meant, or what a yield was. But I started small, worked a lot of overtime (which I quickly learned was a straight time-for-money trade), and in just over two years I managed to buy my first house at 22. That win made me a saver for life.

When the pandemic hit in 2020 and markets crashed, I kept hearing about the stock market. I knew the basic idea, “buy low, sell high” but I wanted to learn more. I opened my first general investment account in October 2020 after realising savings accounts just weren’t keeping up with inflation. What started as a £50 monthly investment plan quickly turned into over £500 a month. I got hooked. That’s when I started learning about dividend yields, dollar-cost averaging, crypto, and precious metals.

After moving house again in 2022 and finishing a year and a half of renovations, I was ready to go harder with investing all through 2024. I had my cash buffer, my plan, and by early 2025, my stocks and shares had hit an all-time high for my account, until tariffs were announced and things took a turn. That led me to alternative investments like P2P lending, and for the first time I understood how debt can be an asset when used right. That sparked an even deeper interest in economics.

Recently, I’ve also been digging into Forex trading too. The sheer volume of money moving every second is wild, and most people don’t even know it’s happening. All of this learning over the years made one thing clear: we all are working for less and less value every day, and that shift in the time/money equation really hit me.

I started this site because I want to help others find ways to get ahead, not by cutting out every coffee or living miserably frugal, but by thinking differently, using simple tools, and making smarter moves with whatever cash they have.

If anything here helps you save a bit more, earn a little extra, or start thinking long-term about your money, then it’s already worth it.
